Dad and the Trophy Fish

January 30th, 2008 at 11:41 PM by

OK, here’s the story.  I caught this really big bonefish at Christmas Island (Kirimati), had the guide take a picture.  I showed it to my friends and they agreed that it was the biggest fish we had ever caught on Christmas Island – 30 ” and maybe 10 lbs.  The biggest fish in some 400 plus man hours of our guys fishing over a decade or more.  But days later just before we left, I was by myself and taking some pictures of a fish I caught when then fish wiggled and I dipped the camera in salt water!  I immediately took out the flash memory card and put it in my pocket, but the damage had been done,  I had lost the picture of my trophy fish.  The flash memory was toast! I sent the card to a specialist in So. Carolina and he was unable to get any images off the card.  While at Macworld, I ran into DriveSavers and sent the card to them.  They opened the card in a cleanroom and were able to save the pictures.  Here’s a picture of the big guy.

Dude, salvaged pictures are the BEST pictures! That fish looks huge dad, I hope you have a picture of you biting it’s head off too… goes well with record-breaking I think.

  2. Hugh Says:

Hey Mason, I’ve been trying to post a larger picture like Dieter did and I’m having trouble. I’ll keep working.

  3. Mason Says:

your guess is as good as mine I’m afraid. Tyler’s the brains behind this operation.

  4. Alexandra Says:

So Mason you also have to ask Dad how much the big fish really cost him and I don’t mean catching it on a hook! Love MUM

  5. Tyler Says:

Dang, Mom, that’s just creepy sounding.

Did it cost him his SOUL?

  6. Dieter Says:

    maybe just an EYE?

  7. Hugh Says:

    Maybe $200?
