ReMade

November 9th, 2008 by

The Juniors in the ID program at WWU just finished their products for ReMade, the annual project that asks students to create products from otherwise useless waste. Last friday the students exhibited their work in downtown Bellingham at IDEAL where the products will also be for sale. If you’re interested in buying one of the products or just want to get a closer look, you can go to www.widg.blogspot.com. The products will also be available for purchase this thursday at the Western AS Bookstore.bizcard

I found out today that I won the Swaile Design Technology for the Visually Impaired Scholarship, receiving $1,500.00 and another great addition to my portfolio, getting me that much closer to gaining entry into the Industrial Design program at Western. My professor, Jason Morris mentioned that my layout and interviews were key factors for my receiving the scholarship.

You can find the PDF version of the Design for the Blind Booklet that was entered for the scholarship at DankeDieter.comIn context

Shelters, in the wide sense of the word

March 19th, 2008 by

Our final project in 3D design was to make some sort of shelter whether it be literal or a play on the idea of shelter. In the spirit of spring I decided to make a butterfly inside of a cocoon. I used wire to make a frame, covered the wings with tissue paper, put a light inside, and used an organic looking cotton paper for the cocoon.
The rest of the pictures are of another student’s work which was a room made of tons of boxes, it was ridiculous. He even had a couple girls sitting on the couch inside the cardboard room just sitting on the couch the whole time. His project took up more than half the room, it was ridiculous! after the critique they ran through the walls of the room making all of the boxes fall all over the place, quite a scene. Plaster Shapeshifting with Dieter

March 2nd, 2008 by

I completed my latest art project today. We were assigned to make two objects that would morph into eachother using a block of plaster about the size of a shoe box. I wanted to make my work using an object from nature and something more industrial or man made and put them both together. So I decided to make a pine cone turning into a grenade.
