Ten word contest! Finale!

April 9th, 2008 by

Okey dokey, I, uh, managed to break the private post functionality when I upgraded WordPress. So we’re going to have a public contest!

Everyone post your best submission in the comments here (and send it to the contest email address indicated in the original post)!

On friday, I’ll make a new post where we can judge them (nicely)!

A contest! Ten words!

April 6th, 2008 by

Penny Arcade, a vulgar and hilarious video-gaming comic, has posted a challenge. It’s simple: write a ten word story about World of Warcraft. I think we should have our own mini contest and post our best ones here.

You don’t have to know anything about WoW (I don’t), it just has to be fantasy-related. Here are the suggestions they gave:

His father’s sword, shattered to the hilt, fell like stars.

It doesn’t have to be especially epic, it merely needs to ring true. For example:

“Help,” he cried. “My dick is stuck in this Treant!”

See what I mean? It paints a picture. You know everything you need to know about the dick and the Treant. You’ve got until Thursday, the 10th of April. We’ll announce the winners next Friday.

See? Piece of cake! I’ll make a secret post Wednesday night so we can each put in our final entry (don’t forget to send an email to the one they give in the post, so that you can officially enter the contest).

Shelters, in the wide sense of the word

March 19th, 2008 by

Our final project in 3D design was to make some sort of shelter whether it be literal or a play on the idea of shelter. In the spirit of spring I decided to make a butterfly inside of a cocoon. I used wire to make a frame, covered the wings with tissue paper, put a light inside, and used an organic looking cotton paper for the cocoon.
The rest of the pictures are of another student’s work which was a room made of tons of boxes, it was ridiculous. He even had a couple girls sitting on the couch inside the cardboard room just sitting on the couch the whole time. His project took up more than half the room, it was ridiculous! after the critique they ran through the walls of the room making all of the boxes fall all over the place, quite a scene. Plaster Shapeshifting with Dieter

March 2nd, 2008 by

I completed my latest art project today. We were assigned to make two objects that would morph into eachother using a block of plaster about the size of a shoe box. I wanted to make my work using an object from nature and something more industrial or man made and put them both together. So I decided to make a pine cone turning into a grenade.

HPIM1030 HPIM1035 This poor tortoise is in quite a predicament. If he can’t make it back on to his stomach he’ll be destined to fry in the sun.
