Dad just began playing the baritone regularly for the first time in several years. He joined the Gorge Winds Band a couple months back and has been practicing with them every week and playing gigs every couple weeks or so.Â
In the pictures below you’ll find dad having fun with the band at a gig in White Salmon. Luckily I was able to attend the concert giving me the sense that everything had come full circle; once upon a time it was my father who would joyfully attend my concerts but now our roles have switched and now it is I who proudly watches on as his father once again dawns his instrument.

The Hang Al is now finished. Today I put the finishing  touches on the coat hooks, drilling holes for mounting and buffing out the surface.Â
I’ve included some pictures illustrating the three hooks on the Hang Al that can be used simultaneously.Â

I’m happy to say that my coat hook design has finally gone from the drawing board and been made into the real thing. Using the school’s water jet I cut two hooks out of half inch Aluminum plate. I’m calling it the “Hang Al” for now (Al is for Aluminum). I’d be glad to hear alternative name suggestions if you have any in mind. I still have yet to cut key hole slots in the backs for wall mounting as well as some sanding.Â

I found out today that I won the Swaile Design Technology for the Visually Impaired Scholarship, receiving $1,500.00 and another great addition to my portfolio, getting me that much closer to gaining entry into the Industrial Design program at Western. My professor, Jason Morris mentioned that my layout and interviews were key factors for my receiving the scholarship.

This is ‘I am not a paper cup’ designed by James Burgess. Its the same cup we’ve all used many times for our coffee and now this designer has recreated this quintessential coffee cup in the form of porcelain along with a reusable silicon lid.
You can find it here for $20.00 at www.charlesandmarie.com
